about ME

I am a highly motivated multi-disciplined freelance graphic designer with experience across a diverse range of client sectors. I strive to create witty, memorable designs to a very high standard and my favorite part about the job is getting to know my clients.

Each project I work on is an opportunity to do some amazing and unique work. I research first, learn my clients personality, tone of voice, objectives, target audience, competitors and then, I research some more. Everything is evaluated to ensure a point of difference is created and it is unique to the client.

Whatever the design project my goal is always the same. Create something direct, simple, memorable, purposeful and makes you smile:)

I can pretty much create something out of anything. I studied Art History and Visual Arts but find that I am constantly am looking to further my knowledge in all realms of life.  I am a 200-Hour Certified Yoga Teacher, an Artist,  a Craftsman, a Graphic Designer and an Amateur Photographer. I know how to practice crow pose, quilt, knit, crochet, woodwork, weld, lay a hardwood floor, solder metal, throw a pot, oil paint, use a MAC and a PC, and take a decent photo for your next profile shot.

If there is something I don't know how to do, I usually figure out a way.

MY Services

Designing a logo is easy but designing a 'good logo' or the 'right logo' is very hard and requires a lot of skill, research, creative exploration and a keen eye for the finest detail. I put a lot of time and effort into finding the right way to distill your brand and tell "your story" merely through an image or the perfect typeface. I strive to find the right way to distill your brand essence into a simple, unique, instantly recognizable and memorable mark. Thoughtful design can show people what you stand for and what you value.

Firstly let's get something clear here: "Brand" {the perceived emotional image as a whole} "Identity"  {is the visual aspect that forms part of the overall brand}

The story of telling....what is yours?

Everything your company displays, says, does and produces has to reflect the core ideas, values and aims of you and your business. Each of these elements must be thoughtfully, creatively and strategically developed to work as a whole. In order to create the right image for your company, your branding needs to be consistent, direct and stimulating for your audience.  It needs to be positioned within the current market, have its own identity and personality. Design isn’t just about outward appearances and conversions in the moment, it needs to leave a lasting memory, one that gets shared again and again creating an effective marketing investment in itself.

Along with all that other branding stuff going on behind the scenes, the next step is getting you and getting your story out there! I can help you dream up a enticing and magical Instagram feed or newsletter template to spam all your clients. I'd even be happy to consult on your previous one, and suggest how you can improve user experience. You just need to provide me with the content.

Proficient in: MailChimp, Constant Contact, Facebook & Instagram.

Just looking to spiffy up some past print materials? Or refresh an old ad created by a designer who has vanished? Easy Peasy! Just send along your previous materials and I'll see what I can do.

With a degree in Art History and Visual Arts I am constantly looking at the past and present for new avenues to explore and express myself in different mediums. In past projects I've used these skills and incorporated them in to projects in engaging and creative ways. I feel as if my background in the arts, gives me a leg up on the competition in design.

As a graphic designer often times there is a confusion between what we do and what a web developer does. They do HTML, we do ADOBE. The great thing is now there several semi-computer savvy platforms that allow us non HTML'rs to take manners into our own hands and build a website on our own. Increasingly more clients have asked me if I do this, and as a matter of fact I can!  And the best part is you get the eye of a designer developing your site and making sure your brand in on mark. Your responsible for the nitty gritty details (setting up your account basically) and I'll take care of the rest.

Proficient in: Square Space, Word Press and WIX.

Erica is exceptional at what she does. She gave us 3 great options for our new logo and rebuilt our website with very little guidance from us - and it came out great! We admire her creativity, appreciate the quick turnaround and are grateful for her patience with us through this process!

What is your brand story?

With every project I do my favorite thing is getting to know you, the client. What is your story? What is your brand background? How do you want to be perceived in the current market? Below is a brief outline of my process as we work with one another in creating the perfect and unique brand, identity and logo. Part Business Building. Part Business Identity. I'll meet you half way.

Design holds no place in the discovery meeting. In fact, the term “discovery meeting” should provide some subtle suggestion that I'm here to discover things, not talk about our design stuff …or ask about it. You hold the information that I need to create an appropriate and effective design. We'll start the process with a simple client survey tailored to your business so I can get a better idea of what you need. Your marketing plans, about your clients and target audience, your competitors, your future aims, and your blue–sky dreams. Think of it as your business plan, and treat it like one. This is where it all starts, and if there isn't a clear vision at the beginning, then things can get muddled long the way, and that is no fun for anyone.

Next, I will aggregate adjectives, words from the answer process, identify themes and sort similarities to understand your goals and interpret how these translate into design principles and theme of your Brand. All the while investigating what else people are doing in your industry and whom is your nearest competitor. I'll do my own research while you are typing out your next multi-million dollar business plan.

I recommend all my clients to the 3C's: Click, Collect & CompileClick a pic of things you see that you like or goes with your ideal branding identity (i.e. graffiti wall, local artist installation, cool exterior signage, your mornings breakfast)  and send it to me. Collect any materials, postcards or business cards (yes the paper ones) that you like and share them with me. Compile like brands, images, logos, color palettes, pictures on Pinterest and invite me to view them. The more the better so I can get an idea of the look and feel you are striving to get.

I'll present to you 3-4 base designs that I think encompass your brand based upon the answers, general themes throughout and 3C's. The most important thing that I ask of you is to give me feedback. What you like about one thing, what you dislike about another. Don't get tied up on the color, as sometimes I use mockups so you can get a sense of how it would feel in person. From here I will take your advice and input and rework this into one final design for you.

Once your logo is all shiny, sparkly and ready to be shown to the world I will release all files to you (well, once the balance is paid) and provide you with a complete branding guide. Unlike other designers I don't hold onto your files, so you are free to do what you would like and the branding template will provide a base for other designers to know who you are.  Don't forget though if you want to design anything further that we have not discussed in the agreed T&C's (newsletter, business cards, signage, social media banners or profile get the picture) you'll still need a designer to create these for you. The good thing is, I just may know one.

Erica Bliss has been a vital part of our team and more than a pleasure to work with. Her keen eye for detail and excellent feel and understanding for our brand, which she has actually helped us create, always resonates with what we are looking to market to our students. — Daria Germondi, Yogacampus
We needed a new logo designed for a company that we were establishing. Erica was a delight to work with on the project, as she listened and understood what our requirements were. She presented a series of ideas and tactfully negotiated the right path for my business partner and I to follow. Having worked the design, she found the best solution for printing all the collateral. It was a real pleasure to work with her and we will certainly use her services again going forward.
